Start with surgeon involvement, not price. Verify in writing that the named surgeon performs the extraction (not technicians). Check whether they assess donor density before quoting graft counts, whether they show 12-month results from patients with similar Norwood stages, and whether their pricing is itemised.
Different trade-offs. Turkey offers excellent surgeon-led clinics at 3–4× lower cost than the US, with strong all-inclusive packaging. The US offers domestic aftercare and tighter regulatory oversight. The country matters less than the clinic.
For 2,500 grafts: Turkey runs €1,800–€3,200, Spain and Italy €3,500–€7,500, Germany and France €4,500–€8,500, the UK £5,500–£9,500, and the US $10,000–$18,000.
Five non-negotiables: Will the named surgeon perform extraction personally? What is my donor density and graft cap? Can I see 12-month results from patients at my Norwood stage? Itemised quote that matches the final invoice? Aftercare protocol at 3, 6, and 12 months?
FUE (or Sapphire FUE) is standard for most patients. FUT is rarely first-line today. DHI is excellent for women, eyebrow work, and no-shave. Technique matters less than surgeon skill.
Norwood 2: 1,200–2,000. Norwood 3: 2,000–3,000. Norwood 4: 3,000–4,000. Norwood 5+ often staged.
Transplanted hairs shed by week 3 — normal and expected. New growth begins around month 3. Density becomes obvious from month 6. Final result matures at 12 months.
